Personal Safety Tips for Pickups and Deliveries

By: Eric Greenbaum

When using Cottage Nosh, as a buyer or a seller, there will be times when you will need to meet people you know from the marketplace in-person – typically for pickups and deliveries. In some cases, the people you will be meeting will be strangers to you and you should take some common-sense precautions to ensure your personal safety.

For your own protection, we suggest and encourage you to keep all communications and transactions on Cottage Nosh’s platform using our website and the website’s chat feature. That way, in the event that something does not go as planned there will be a record of all of your communications.

As a Seller:

  • Pickup locations in a well-lit, public space, during the day are the safest.
  • While it may be convenient to schedule pickups from your home, it is safer to meet strangers in a public place.
  • Never invite strangers into your home – this is for your safety as well as theirs.
  • When meeting customers for a pickup it’s best to have someone with you if possible.
  • When making deliveries, never go into a customer’s home.
  • Let a friend or family member know where you are going.
  • Trust your instincts, if something feels off, remove yourself from the situation.

As a Buyer:

  • Pickup locations in a well-lit, public space, during the day are the safest.
  • Never enter a Seller’s home during a pickup. This is for your safety as well as theirs.
  • Let a friend or family member know where you are going.
  • Never invite strangers into your home.
  • Trust your instincts, if something feels off, remove yourself from the situation.

Following these basic guidelines will help to ensure your safety.
